Mission Statement

Dames for Danes is an all-volunteer non-profit animal rescue organization based in Oak Ridge, TN dedicated to saving the lives of homeless, abused and neglected Great Danes in Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Georgia, as well as to areas resources will allow.

Provisions:

Dames For Danes provides: Rescue, foster care, veterinary care, and sterilization for Great Danes in city/county animal shelters that would otherwise be euthanized. Assistance to other animal rescues and shelters needing to relocate rescued Great Danes. Foster care for Great Danes surrendered by their owners who either can no longer provide for the pets or no longer wish to have them in their homes. Adoption of rescued Great Danes to qualified homes that have been properly screened and counseled by our adoption coordinators and foster parents to maintain the pet in the home for a lifetime. Education to the public in the form of importance of humane education, animal welfare and spaying/neutering. Dames for Danes will also open our doors to Irish Wolfhounds, St. Bernards, Newfies, and Dane Mix Breeds when our room allows. We cannot always open our door to all as resources are limited but we will offer help to those in need in other ways when possible.

  • Meet Our Girls!!!!!!!

    July 27th, 2010

Maggie and Mollie the fabulous pair!!!  We love these girls!!!  Maggie and Mollie have started out a little rough but are going to make some lucky person a fine pair of Danes.  These girls are a bonded pair who need one another to make it in life.  One does not stray far from the other.  They must be adopted together.  These girls are well behaved.  They have excellent house manners.  They do well with other dogs and children.  We are uncertain what these ladies may think of a cat so we dont recommend mixing without great caution.  The ladies are still learning to walk properly on a leash.  They are putting weight on daily and we expect when they are at full weight they will be striking within their looks.

Update On Eileen – She Lost Her Leg And Needs Your Help!

    July 1st, 2010

I went by the vet's office this afternoon on my way home from work to check on Eileen. Eileen was out of surgery and very alert. I was shocked to find her sitting straight up in the surgery recovery room wagging her tail and passing out sweet kisses to all who petted her. Eileen did beautifully!

This dog had to be someone's love. She has been well cared for, well taught, and most of all is an amazingly sweet girl. She is happy with the other animals she has come in contact with. Happy with the people and it amazingly sweet to everyone who touches her. I left the vets office crying happy tears because i know she will be just fine. This is our first three legged Dane and we are excited by her.

Anyone who wishes to donate to her care can do so by calling the vet's office. They have an account set up for her to aid in her rehabilitation following this surgery.

Call Ideal Vet Hospital at 483-1373 and tell them you want to donate to Dames for Danes's Eileen's fund.
Or you can mail a donation to:

    Ideal Vet Hospital
    244 Brisbane Road
    Oak Ridge TN 37830

Make a note it is for Eileen's fund c/o Dames for Danes

Or donate via Pay Pal @

    https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=YAHW7DVXAHFM4

We could use all of the support you can offer for this Girl!
She has a road ahead of her although the outlook is fantastic!!!

    Thank You for everything!!!

Eileen Was Hit By A Car

    July 1st, 2010

Today we got in our Dane Girl who needs your prayers. Her name is Eileen. Eileen was hit by a car at some point and is facing losing one of her back legs. Eileen is a beautiful black girl with a white chest. Eileen is in wonderful condition and had been spayed already. She has a beautiful shiny coat and it appears someone has loved her. She is very sweet and loving despite her pain.

We will need your prayers and help for this gal. We dont know what we are looking at for surgery but when we do we will most likely be asking for your help and donations. We never ask for donations but this one will be one in which we may need your help. We will not ask for more than what she needs!

Thank you to everyone who is and has been a part of getting this girl on the road to recovery!!!

Congratulations to Minnie (now called Maddie).  She went to her furever home where she is loved by a loving family, as well as another Dane!  Maddie now spends her days at home with her new mommy, and likes to go hiking!  We love happy endings!
